The Physics Department started its undergraduate education activities in the 1993-1994 academic year. The main purpose of the program is to teach students the basic laws and principles of physics theoretically and practically, and to gain the ability to easily understand and analyze the physical problems they will encounter. In line with this purpose, our students are given a 4-year undergraduate education in order to conduct research and development in the fields of physics and physics-related industry. Teaching activities are carried out in 4 classrooms, 2 general physics laboratories, 1 optics and modern physics laboratory, 1 electronics and 1 digital electronics laboratory in Zonguldak Farabi Campus. Our students, if they wish, can continue a part of their education (at least one, at most two semesters) in another higher education institution in accordance with the Farabi Exchange Program Protocol. Again, our students who want to benefit from the minor/double major programs offered at our university can obtain a minor certificate/double diploma. You can visit the “Student Information Package” https://obs.beun.edu.tr/oibs/bologna/ website to get more detailed information about our undergraduate curriculum and the contents of the courses taught in this program. Students who are successful in all of the compulsory and elective courses (total of 240 ECTS) in the department's curriculum and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.0 graduate with the title of Physicist.
Our graduates can work as researchers in the research and development (R&D) departments of universities, industry, health and scientific research institutions. In addition, students who receive post-graduate formation education can become physics teachers in public and private education institutions affiliated to the Ministry of National Education. On the other hand, our graduates who receive Occupational Safety Training from institutions authorized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security have the opportunity to work as occupational safety specialists in private and public institutions.
Our department has been providing education in graduate (master's and doctorate) programs since 1993. The main aim of our graduate programs is to enable students to become experts in physics by teaching advanced mathematical techniques together with advanced physical theories, based on the basic concepts introduced in the physics undergraduate program. Again, training physics students for an academic career or to train them as experts who can do research in industrial fields are among the aims of the program. You can visit the “Student Information Package” https://obs.beun.edu.tr/oibs/bologna/ website to learn more about our graduate education programs and the contents of the courses taught in these programs.
